Henin wins; Tanasugarn loses Unicef opener

06/14/2010 - 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former world No. 1 and 2010 Australian Open runner-up Justine Henin was an easy opening-round winner, while two-time defending champion Tamarine Tanasugarn exited the draw Monday at the $220,000 Unicef Open, a final grass-court Wimbledon tuneup.

The top-seeded Henin handled German Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-2 on Day 2 at Autotron Rosmalen. The seven-time major champion Henin will face Italian Roberta Vinci in the round of 16.

Henin is playing her first tennis since losing to Aussie Samantha Stosur in the fourth round at the French Open two weeks ago.

Tanasugarn lost to Aussie qualifier Anastasia Rodionova 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The Thai Tanasugarn beat Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in last year's final to capture her second straight title here.

Two other seeds joined Henin in the second round, as No. 3 Russian Maria Kirilenko leveled Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-4, 6-1 and No. 5 Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru outlasted French qualifier Julie Coin 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4).

Two other seeds went by way of the upset, as Austrian veteran Sybille Bammer bounced No. 6 Italian Sara Errani 6-1, 6-3 and Dutch wild card Arantxa Rus knocked out No. 8 Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Meanwhile, former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic overcame Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, while Belgian Kirsten Flipkens flattened American Vania King 6-1, 6-2.

Additional first-round wins came for the aforementioned Vinci, Russian Alla Kudryavtseva, German Kristina Barrois and Czech qualifier Sandra Zahlavova.
