Mauer still leads AL All-Star balloting

06/21/2010 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer remained the top vote-getter among American League players in the latest fan balloting results for this year's All-Star Game, which will be played July 13 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Mauer, the reigning AL MVP, has received 3,280,565 votes, topping New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter's total of 2,692,418. Both players have healthy leads at their respective positions. Mauer leads New York's Jorge Posada by more than 2.2 million votes, while Jeter's cushion is more than 1.3 million over Texas' Elvis Andrus.

Minnesota's Justin Morneau leads at first base with 1,752,276 votes, more than 244,000 ahead of New York's Mark Teixeira. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera is a close third with 1,426,973 votes.

Robinson Cano of the Yankees has garnered 2,330,278 votes and has a lead of more than 1.1 million on Boston's Dustin Pedroia at second base, while Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria is the clear leader at third base, as his 2,534,967 votes are more than 963,000 in front of New York's Alex Rodriguez.

The top three outfield slots are held by Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle, Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford and Texas' Josh Hamilton. Hamilton moved ahead of teammate Nelson Cruz by just over 53,000 votes.

Another Texas slugger, Vladimir Guerrero, leads at designated hitter with 2,316,229 votes, well ahead of Hideki Matsui of the Angels with just over one million tallies.

The next National League All-Star balloting results will be released Tuesday.

Fan balloting will continue through June 23 at all Major League stadiums and on all 30 club sites and at MLB.com through July 1.

All-Star teams will be announced July 4, after which time fans will select the 34th player for each league's roster in Final Vote balloting.
